Mavis shoots her husband of 12 hours, Edgar, and then the following morning contacts the police to report he's missing. Inspector James Crandall makes a house call to interview Mavis and Edgar's long-time housekeeper Lottie. A little later they're joined by Constable Abel Howard, returning Mavis' missing cat. The following morning Edgar's slightly ditzy daughter Susan returns from the States with her American fiancé Barry, to be told her father disappeared a few days earlier, the same day he maried Mavis. Can Inspector Crandall solve the mystery of Edgar's disappearance and will we find out what Mavis' plans are?
