Treasure Island
Performed 27 and 28 November and 3 and 4 December 2010
A pantomime by Toby Bradford and Tina Webster very loosely based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Ma Hawkins and her son Jim run the the Admiral Benbow Inn, but Jim in stead of helping Ma usually has his nose in an adventure story. When one of their customers, Billy Bones, disappears without a trace, they find a treasure map in his enormous chest. The pub landlord, Squire Trelawney, to whom Ma Hawkins owes several weeks' rent, decides to buy a ship and set to sail hunting for the treasure, located on island 20 miles off the coast of Trinidad. Jim and the Squire's daughter Felicity are madly in love with each other and Felicity, and Ma Hawkins, are gutted when they hear that women aren't allowed on the ship. Where Ma thought she'd be the ship's cook, the Squire hired Pete Silver. But wait a minute!, Pete is actually evil pirate Long John Silver, trying to get his hands on the treasure with the aid of his band of pirates including Brass and Knuckles and Jolly Roger. Is this going to end well? And what happens when they arrive at the Treasure Island and find Robinson Crusoe there with his Girls Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday? Maybe the Fairy Godmother can rescue this treasure hunt......
